Recreational drug use at 16 can result in height growth stunting, learning disabilities and cause developemental behavioral problems. He needs consistent support and professional help to maintain sobriety and resume normal adolescent growth. Talk to his primary care Dr for advice and referrals. If he remains sober, the effects can be minimized.

His growth potential depends on having open growth plates in his long bones. An x-ray of his wrist/hand can be obtained to verify open growth plates. If open, he can grow taller, if closed, he is done. Most males grow taller until 17-18. If he has grown 2-3 inches in the past year it is likely he will grow more. If he grew less than an inch in the past year he is nearing the end of growth.
