For the type of structures being imaged MRI will be better for detail. However, causes for tinnitus remain extremely difficult to find and there is no guarantee that the MRI will prove to be diagnostic.

A brain MRI can exclude the presence of serious abnormalities but is unlikely to reveal a pathological source to account for your tinnitus. An otolaryngologist may be helpful to seek answers, but even with an array of audiological/ otological tests, diagnostic answers may remain elusive. Pulsatile tinnitus is rarely associated with critical illnesses.
