A member asked:

Is it true if there is a trace of ketones in a person urine they should not begin metformin and should instead take insulin?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ketones in your urine can result from a period of fasting, or in a diabetic when glucose cannot enter tissues because of lack of insulin to help it happen. Any treatment for a diabetic should be following the guidelines of your treatment team. There is no one size fits all answer to this question. Call your team.
