Eating protein does not raise cholesterol. Typical dietary culprits are butter, cheese, eggs, whole milk, saturated fats and other high cholesterol foods. There may also be a genetic component where cholesterol is elevated regardless of dietary intake. Eat a diet based on lean proteins (chicken without skin, fish, etc), lots of fruits and vegetables, low salt, and whole grains.

Skinless chicken is better, to avoid raising cholesterol levels. High protein diets may include some with high saturated fats which would increase cholesterol. Whey protein is a better protein to maintain a healthy cholesterol level .
