The original Gardasil was approved for use in 2006 and assisted protection of 2 wart and 2 cancer associated strains of HPV. At the end of 2014 Gardasil 9 was approved and this helped protect against the original 4 plus 5 more cancer associated strains. A single dose of G-9 would boost the original 4, but full protection of the new 5 strains would require a full series.
