What is laparoscopic peritoneal lavage for people with diverticulitis? does it cure the condition?

Peritoneal lavage is flushing the abdominal cavity with fluids to clear out pus, inflammation, etc. It doesn't cure anything. The main treatment of diverticulitis is antibiotics, but sometimes surgery is necessary. Peritoneal lavage sometimes is used in hope of avoiding more serious surgery.
