A member asked:

My husband has pv that is controlled through phlebotomy &baby aspirin. his hgb was down to 11.3 and hct 38%. his dr put him on iron. after 1 mo. of iron his hgb is 14.6. doctor wants him to continue for 2 more months. won't this raise him too high?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It often takes several months of iron supplementation to build the bodies iron reserves to an adequate level after anemia. The bodies own system of iron absorption begins to lessen when good stores are present. This treatment plan is standard of care and will not produce the "TOO HIGH" issue you propose.
