I have pancolitis for over a month they originally thought was from c diff. c diff went away awhile ago but colitis still present. chemo put off 2x so it could heal. tomorrow chemo is set even tho nothing changed. dr said not sure what will happen?

It will probably take collaboration between your oncologist and a gastroenterologist to determine the cause of your persistent diarrhea and the best treatment for it. It may be post C Diff irritable bowel syndrome that you're experiencing. Appropriate testing must be done. You don't want to put off your chemotherapy too long.

Yes, it is likely that you experience an autoimmune type colitis increasingly seen in patients being treated with monoclonal antibodies aside from the well described potential of traditional chemotherapy to cause colitis. Sometimes steroids are needed to control the inflammation.

The situation’s are quite complex, and it is difficult to be absolutely certain of the cause of the colitis. It could be due to C diff, but also could be due to colitis from the chemotherapy agents themselves, in addition to other potential auto immune causes. You should follow up closely with your G.I. doctor and your oncologist. Good luck.
