Mixed symptoms: Refers to "mixed anxiety and depressive disorder" that is in the appendix section for 'future study' in the diagnostic and statistical manual for mental disorders IV edition. Technically, this recognizes the notion that anxiety and depression symptoms highly co-occur and share many symptom features such as "negative affect." however, 'anxio depression' is not a disorder per se.

DIFFERENT THINGS: You have mentioned two different phenomena here. Anxiety refers to being nervous or jittery. Depression refers to blue mood and hopelessness. Now, that being said, I am of the belief that depression and anxiety are two sides of the same coin, which means you can experience both of these phenomena, but in waves of each, not really simultaneously.
