A member asked:

When i get water up my nose it burns is this normal even with cold water it's a burning sensation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes. The cells of our nose are protected by semipermeable membranes. If the water that enters your nose has a lower salt concentration than the 1% in our body's cells, then the water will try to surge into the cells to balance out the concentration via osmosis. This process creates the burning sensation you are describing.
