The HIV antigen-antibody tests (AgAb, "4th generation") always are positive by 6 weeks and the latest antibody tests by 8 weeks, although some older antibody tests might take up to 3 months. With the latest tests, delayed seroconversion is extremely rare if it occurs at all. No responsible or knowledgeable source advises 6 months; such advice usually reflects poor understanding of HIV testing.

There are cases of late seroconversion so it is always best to test again to rule out HIV. Living in fear is not healthy.
