A member asked:

I had a ct scan with contrast done recently on my abdomen and pelvis. the abdominal wall was unremarkable and no distended bowel loops on the gi tract section of the report. would this ct show abnormalities if there were polyps in the gi tract?

Polyps in the GI tract typically do not show on a CT of the abdomen. These polys are diagnosed with a colonoscopy that a GI doctor would perform. So, if you are concerned about polyps, see a GI doctor and get a colonoscopy. Good luck to you!

Although there is a test known as CT colonography which under certain circumstances can show large polyps, a routine CT scan of the abdomen with contrast does not show any polyps. although there are several tests that are now used for screening for colon cancer, the most reliable way to see the colon is still colonoscopy. Good luck.
