A member asked:

If something made of lead pierced your skin, would that cause lead poisoning if not removed quickly?

Lead poisoning caused by something containing lead being in the body is something that is not diagnosed as often as it should be. The piece of metal should be removed as soon as possible and your lead level in your blood should be followed. There is treatment if the lead level is too high. Have this attended to as soon as possible by your doctor.

If the piercing was brief and the agent removed quickly the main risks would be bacterial infection at the site/tetanus. A thorough cleansing of the area and close monitoring would be adequate to avoid this complication. A single brief exposure would not provide the type of exposure known for lead poisoning.
