A member asked:

Can a abdominal / pelvis scan accurately show an enlarged liver and the size of it . would a ultrasound be more accurate ? ..is a liver measurement of 18.7 considered dangerous ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A CT scan can show liver size as can an MRI or ultrasound but CT scan uses a lot of radiation, the others use none & are better choices. A liver size over 15 cms as measured from the middle of a line in the middle of your chest is considered enlarged. The cause of an enlarged liver is best investigated by a hepatologist or gastroenterologist.
