Except for infrequent instances of hereditary forms of hypertrophy, if the hypertrophy has developed in response to uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure), reducing one's blood pressure to normal levels and keeping the BP well within the normal range, the heart can remodel and hypertrophy can stabilize or even recede. Hypertrophy progresses if BP is not controlled.
