If lumbosacral spondylosis progresses, foraminal encroachment can compress nerve roots upon exit, but associated degenerative disc disease could result in rupture and nerve root compression as another mechanism.

It is possible having orthotics can (sometimes) help by taking pressure off the lower back while standing and walking. A podiatrist can help in this area. Can be very effective.
