Not usually: Menstrual bleeding is significantly lighter for most women while using the Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud. Some will stop have periods. If the pain and bleeding you are experiencing is better than before the iud, it may be normal. If you have had a sudden increase in bleeding or pain, this may be a sign that the iud has dropped lower in the uterus or a sign of an infection. See your doctor to be evaluated.

See a Provider: It sounds like you may have developed an ovarian cyst. That can happen with a mirena (levonorgestrel). But to be sure, see a provider and ask for an ultrasound to check the position of the Mirena (levonorgestrel) and your pelvic structures.
