Postop nausea: The most common cause of postoperative nausea following a tonsillectomy, and many other surgieries as well, is prescription pain medication. Swallowed blood frequently will also result in nausea and vomitting but generally resolves after vomiting. Taking the pain med with food can reduce the nausea, however after a tonsillectomy eating can be a challenge. You may want to try a different med.

Pain medication: Likely the pain medication is playing a large role with the nausea you currently are experiencing. Many surgeons prescribe Lortab Elixir for their patients and this medicine is a combo of tylenol (acetaminophen) plus narcotic (hydrocodone). The medicine is likely making your nausea worse. Consider taking otc tylenol (acetaminophen) for you next scheduled dose. You could call your ENT for zofran odt which works great for nausea.
