Several things can: Sometimes the effects of anesthesia linger and cause nausea. If you are taking a narcotic pain medication or Ibuprofen this can upset the stomach (especially empty stomachs), and less commonly, if you are swallowing blood that is oozing, this can cause nausea. If you do have bleeding or vomit dark brown material, you should call your doctor right away.
