The heart rate is the number of times the heart beats and the blood pressure is how much pressure the heart exerts on the blood vessels with each beat. So, you can have a normal number of beats per minute but each beat exerts a high amount of pressure on the blood vessels. It is possible to have a normal heart rate with increased blood pressure-2 different things are being measured. Good luck!

Increased heart rate is only one factorthat can cause hypertension. Increased sodium & water content in the walls of the arterioles and increased tension in the arterioles throughout the body are other factors that can cause hypertension. We often choose the type of antihypertensive medication based on which of these variables are causing the high blood pressure. Sometimes more than one med needed
