You can have both-it’s called overflow incontinence. When the bladder gets too full, it simply cannot hold any more and urine leaks out. So, the urine is retained but when the bladder can’t hold more, it leaks-hence, incontinence. If this is an issue, see a urologist for evaluation and treatment. There are treatments available. There is a condition called overflow incontinence when the blasser is full and then some urine leaks out continuously like a topped of tank of water- this happens in certain neurogenic conditions. It is not a very common condition and not related to menopause
