A doctor has provided 1 answer

Some afflictions are pattern specific and the similarity of shingles (reactivated varicella virus) to reactivated HSV is close. Almost anyone your age (35 in post) would have had chickenpox(varicella) as a kid or the vaccine. Sorting out the two could be done by specialty labs with a good sample. The doc not feel sorting the two worthy, may treat both the same way. You might ask at your next visit
