A member asked:

I am diabetic and have high bp for past 1 yr. my mri report states "t2w / flair hyperintensities noted in bilateral centrum semiovale and periventricular white matter, not showing diffusion restriction likely suggestive of small vessel ischemic chang?

White matter brain microvascular damage can be caused by hypertension& blood sugar fluctuations in diabetes. If you have abnormal amounts of protein in your urine it can be due to glomerular disease from diabetes while hypertension can cause microvascular and glomerular damage in kidneys. Your brain MRI s a signal for good blood pressure&diabetes control to prevent further damage in these organs

Although your brain T2 images are nonspecific, these can be secondary to diabetes and hypertension, but also due to smoking and migraine, if also present. This is likely a picture of "microvascular angiopathy". Make certain that your medical status is fully stabilized as these outcomes suggest the need for a total interventional program.
