You can go directly to a lab; or purchase a home self test at a pharmacy or online. Such tests are available in the UK. However, if you are at significantly high risk (like sex with other men, injection drug use, sex with a known infected partner) you would be smart to find a way to visit an NHS GUM clinic. You also can phone a GUM clinic for their advice about testing options. Good luck.
