A member asked:

If lung cancer has no symptoms in the early stage, how would you know you have it? i smoked from age 15 to age 23.. then quit.. now i am 61.. i worry all the time about getting lung cancer, i dont want unnecessary scans, so what can i do?

I would find a life coach/therapist & learn stress reduction/relaxation techniques. While there you can explore why you are fixated on the cancer issue. Preoccupation with a recognized health risk often covers up hidden issues in life that are harder to think about. If you uncover these and address them life may get better. There is a great chance that stopping smoking decades ago ended your risk

Talk to your doc about the low dose CT scan, if not agreed upon about non chemical ways of dealing with health related anxiety. Unfortunately we still see a certain percentage of patients that never smoked still being diagnosed with lung cancer.
