A member asked:

I have painful cramps on the 1st day of my period, no painkillers worked so far, but taking 1 bc pill stops the pain in 30mins. could i take 1 single pill per period and not take the rest? i am already sterilised so no risk of pregnancy?

Since you’re already sterilized, you do not need to take hormonal birth control pills. Hormonal birth control pills can be effective at controlling painful menstrual cramps. Check with your doctor, but it should be OK to take them just the first day of your period

Birth control pills are an effective way to help reduce painful periods. Consider scheduling a visit with your Obgyn to discuss potential options.
