Itching scar: As wounds heal, the skin and subjacent structures undergo significant changes. This leads to wound healing, then scar modification. In wounds, as the wound edges begin to coalesce, there is scar in the center of the suture line. This scar becomes covered with epithelium (skin), which is metabolically very active and there are large quantities of chemicals released which cause the tissue to itch.

Itching = healing: Itching about a healing wound can be quite common. We have all heard someone tell us growing up, "...Don't pick at or scratch your wound/"cut"...It i'll get infected. You can safely apply a mild skin lubricing lotion up to the edge of he helping wound to help squelch the urge o scratch.

Yes: Some itching during the healing process is normal. Your surgeon will evaluate the nature of the scar during the healing process. Sometimes, if hypertrophic or keloid scar formation occurs, additional therapy may be helpful. Best wishes for a successful surgical result.

Yes: Laterjet surgical repair of the shoulder usually involves an incision in the anterior part of the shoulder. As with many surgical incisions, stiches are placed deep in the sub skin tissues as well as at the surface. The stitches sub skin are dissolvable. Itching around the incision is a normal part of the healing process. Contact your surgeon for increasing pain, redneness or drainage.
