Yes: When you first start birth control, irregular periods can occur if the placebo portion of the pack is not started on the first day of your period. It also may not prevent pregnancy the first month. To avoid this, and ensure efficacy many practitioners advocate starting the pack with your period, or using a backup method such as condoms, during the first month of use.
