The varices develop much like the ones on the leg of women who have had babies. The pressure of the uterus slows blood flow through leg veins causing pressure & ballooning them. Any scarring or clot impeding the blood flow out of the stomach can create back pressure on these veins flow pattern causing them to bulge/balloon into varices. How this applies to you must be interpreted by your docs.
