A member asked:

What is the relationship between head injury, amyloid plaque and the posterior cingulate cortex?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Repetitive head injuries, such as in football or hockey may lead over time to Chronic Post-Traumatic Encephalopathy. Changes similar to Alzheimer's Disease become present in the peripheral cerebral cortex, and amyloid plaques have been noted. These changes are thought to explain the cognitive deterioration.
