What are the cons and disadvantages in life after having your thyroid totally removed?

Advantages: for thyroid cancer and certain other thyroid disease, removal can be life saving. Disadvantage: need for lifelong thyroid hormone replacement therapy (which is easy, typically a pill once a day).
