A member asked:

When food is eaten, does this turn into acid? for example carbs, nutrients etc. the food will turn into acids right? through macrophages etc? like basically what im asking is our body is a filter, so the body cleans it before its distributed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The stomach adds acid to the food mixture to promote efficiency in the digestive process. Food is not turned to acid, but absorption is improved for many items when they have it nearby. The body has many complex ways to disassemble complex carbs, proteins and fat that allow better absorption. Once absorbed these building blocks can be converted or stored as needed.
