The transmission is possible especially if your nephew has an active cold sore. However, at your age chance of previous exposure to HSV-1 is high and the disease is latent and you never have cold sore previously. By statistics, fifty to 80 percent of American adults have oral herpes (HSV-1), which causes cold sores or fever blisters in or around the mouth. You have nothing to worry. Take care!

Herpes is spread by skin to skin contact. Kissing and any type of sex, or just touching another person. No transmission from sharing drinks or meals.
