A member asked:

Is the hemorrhagic stroke a sudden onset or develop slowly over hours/days before attack?

Most commonly, the local bleeding commences following a thrombotic or embolic block of a blood vessel, with the distal damaged area subsequently developing a hemorrhagic outcome. This is too variable to make any reasonable comment about the speed of development, but must always be considered in a deteriorating stroke victim.

Too many types of strokes, some purely hemorrhagic, others converted from ischemic strokes not allowing for a reliable predictive pattern as circumstances differ from patient to patient. So, strokes may have sudden or slow onset and may progress slowly or fast with many variables playing a possible role. Such patients are usually observed in the hospital with serial brain imaging as needed.
