Why am i getting lower back pain that switches from side to side and it can hurt down to my hamstrings?

There are many reasons for back pain and it is difficult to determine without a full examination. However, back pain that switches side to side and can go down (or radiates as described in medical terms) to the hamstrings is typically an irritated disc that is putting pressure on the nerves that leave the back and go to the legs. This pain is commonly referred to as sciatica. Please see a doctor!
