I recently tested reactive to htlv-1 and -2. ive always used condoms with previous partners except 3-4 times with 2 long term partners. how did i get this? never used drugs. how to prevent transmission to my life partner? any treatment available?

If you had positive screening test only then you need more specific tests for confirmation. If the positive screening tests were confirmed so you are truly positive. These viruses are transmitted via breast milk, unprotected sex and via infected blood (blood transfusion, contaminated needles or surgical equipment). Your partner has to use condom for protection.

HTLV is transmitted sexually, by blood transfusion, breast milk from nursing mothers, and perhaps others. Sex is the most common overall, but little is known about the details (vaginal vs oral or anal, whether condoms are protective, risk to future partners, etc. Usually it is not possible to know the exact source of infection.
