A member asked:

I've had recurring boils on buttocks. after using benzoyl peroxide daily and hibiclens weekly, they're mostly gone. but occasionally i'll get one or two. could it be mrsa or is it more likely normal staph? if mrsa, should i worry or do something else?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

In todays world I assume at least 60-70% of these are MRSA and I treat them the same as any other staph. Early recognition, moist heat & drainage helps most. True abscesses, should be drained surgically and their rhine removed. Bathing with a couple cups of bleach in the bathwater & placing antibiotic ointment at the nasal entrance daily also cuts down on recurrence.
