A member asked:

In order for a dat scan to be ordered, would a patient need to show signs of a neurological condition?

There might neurological conditions that are minor in nature, NOW, but could advance, and become more severe soon afterwards. The DaT scan is recommended to determine if there are conditions beginning, and possibly advancing.

A DaT Scan is always ordered after there are clinical symptoms and signs of a distinct neurological disorder, which may be due to varying conditions which need sorting out to arrive at the most precise and beneficial therapeutic interventions. Insurance would be rather unlikely to cover based on a family history, a guess, or a hunch.
