What are some of the symptoms for which a neurologist would order a dat scan for a patient?

A Neurologist is very skilled at noticing early symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, thus suggesting that a DaT scan should be ordered. Some of the symptoms that a Neurologist might notice in an examination could be: Minor tremors in hands. Difference in walking patterns. Some altered speech patterns. Altered writing patterns. Neurologists rely on their clinical evaluation first, then DaT scan.

When patients have symptoms which suggest the diagnosis of parkinson disease but those symptoms are not 100% pathognomonic, neurologist will order DaT scan as an adjunctive study for collaboration. Give example: rigidity, impaired balance and coordination, etc. but typical tremor is not present, then DaT scan will be considered.
