Is alt of 57 when the cut off is 55 at lab a sign of anything major? doctor retested n has me nervous. but i see usually it's gotta be double to mean mild and 3x the normal limit is bad... would 57 be anything i should panic over? thanks in advance?

This is only a mild elevation, but it certainly needs to be followed up to be sure that everything is OK with the liver. Your clinical situation will determine whether further testing needs to be performed. You should follow up with your primary care doctor or the gastroenterologist who drew that initial labs. Even a slight elevation of liver enzymes such as an ALT should have a complete lab work up. Serious liver disease may have only minimally elevated liver enzymes. Testing should be done for viral hepatitis iron overload and prothrombin time. A complete history should be done for medication’s toxins, alcohol use and family history of liver disease.
