Thought i had herpes due to telltale signs. went to the dr. had the sore swabed, however the test results for both hsv 1 and 2 came back negative. what else could this have been? an allergic reaction? contact dermatitis?

It is not possible to diagnose a skin lesion without seeing it. Allergy or contact dermatitis is possible and there are certainly other possibilities as well. If the lesion recurs or never resolved, go to your doctor or to a dermatologist to get it diagnosed so the correct treatment can be rendered. Good luck to you!
