A member asked:

Would an anal swab in later stages of lymphogranuloma venereum still be positive for chalmydia? or: does a negative swab rule out an (old) lgv infection?

This is a complex issue. A negative standard chlamydia swab test shows there is no active chlamydial infection (LGV or any other) at the site tested. It says nothing about past infection that has cleared up or successfully treated. It also doesn't tell whether symptoms in a separate location are caused by LGV. Discuss with your doctor.
