A member asked:

I have been having trouble with swallowing and shortness of breath for the past few years. my barium swallow test says my epiglottis moves posteriorly and slightly inferiorly but does not invert. shouldnt my epiglottis invert during swallowing?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The epiglottis should close during swallowing to prevent aspiration of liquids & solids. A speech pathologist can administer a swallowing evaluation at your hospital and advise you best about your status and on swallowing techniques.
