A member asked:

Had a fatty breakfast before blood test, do these results mean i have a cholesterol problem? triglyceride 78 mg/dl, cholesterol 210 mg/dl, hdl cholesterol 55 mg/dl, ldl cholesterol (calculated) 140 mg/dl, non-hdl cholesterol 155 mg/dl?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Eating before the test can affect the triglycerides but not the lipid profile which is a steady state. Your triglycerides are fine. Your ratio of total cholesterol to HDL ( under 4) is acceptable. Your LDL is unfortunately not directly measured but is calculated using a formula. NonHDL cholesterol is recommended to be less than 130. If you were my patient, I'd recommend only dietary treatment now
