57 yr male cholesterol blood test result:
cholesterol 236 mg/dl .
hdl 59 mg/dl
ldl 140 mg/dl
triglycerides 78 mg/dl
3.9 total cholesterol: hdl ratio
are statins advised at these levels or could i just make changes ,diet exercise?

Your cholesterol is moderately elevated but the LDL is quite high. Would employ both dietary and medication approaches to start.

I always recommend a trial of diet first as many can lower it by diet alone. The Ornish diet has been best tested to do this and reverse atherosclerosis. Rice diet works as well.
