A member asked:

My doctor told me i have mildly elevated cholesterol, but i ate fatty breakfast before the blood test. did that influence the numbers?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

How elevated? Food usually does not affect total cholesterol reading. Total cholesterol is only one of the lipids that needs to tested. For a proper test, you should fast for at least 9 hours before the specimen is collected.
