CT scans are good at picking up many things. However, they do not provide a good examination of the surface cells in the intestinal walls that may be the cause of bleeding. Changes that may indicate a cancerous change among other problems would not be found on those studies.

Yes, a diagnostic colonoscopy would be the next step in trying to get to the root of the bleeding, CT scans remain suboptimal in detecting early abnormalities for hollow organs, best for solid organs.
