Safe Vitamin D: It is safe to take up to 10, 000 international units/day. Most people take either 2000 or 5000 units per day in my practice.

100,000 IU-NOT daily: According to the vitamin d council, toxicity can result from taking more than 300, 000 iu in a 24 hour period. If you spend the day in the sun in mid-summer your body can produce up to 100, 000 units naturally. Generally toxicity is very unlikely to develop unless you take 40, 000 units a day long-term. I advise most adults take 5-6000 units/day to achieve optimal levels. See comment:.
