PI on an oximeter stands for perfusion index & is a measure of the strength of the pulse. You want a strong pulse on the finger you're taking the reading on. 20% is a strong pulse. 2% is a weak pulse & O2 saturation may be unreliable or inaccurate.

It has to do with how strong your pulse is and reflects arterial perfusion. Do mention it to your doc when you go for follow up, so that your pulse can be checked both sides.
