Shigella always causes obvious symptoms, usually severe diarrhea with blood. But it's time for you to stop asking such questions and get counseling. See previous replies. Good luck.

Majority of patients get symptoms and are able to clear the infection. Carrier state is rare, has been described and many times the source of outbreaks in institutionalized individuals. Stool studies are used to diagnose it.
